چکیده

We trace the evolution of research on extreme solar and solar-terrestrial events from 1859 Carrington event to rapid development last twenty years. Our focus is largest observed/inferred/theoretical cases sunspot groups, flares Sun Sun-like stars, coronal mass ejections, proton events, geomagnetic storms. The reviewed studies are based modern observations, historical or long-term data including auroral cosmogenic radionuclide record, Kepler observations stars. compile a table 100- 1000-year occurrence frequency distributions for space weather phenomena listed above. Questions considered include nature superflare stars existence impactful but unpredictable "black swans" "dragon king" that can involve different physics operating in which merely large.

Active Distribution Networks Restoration after Extreme Events

After extreme events such as floods, thunderstorms, blizzards and hurricanes there will be devastating effects in the distribution networks which may cause a partial or complete blackout. Then, the major concern for the system operators is to restore the maximum critical loads as soon as possible by available generation units.  In order to solve this problem, this paper provides a restoration s...

Cosmic ray variations of solar origin in relation to human physiological state during the December 2006 solar extreme events

There is an increasing amount of evidence linking biological effects to solar and geomagnetic disturbances. A series of studies is published referring to the changes in human physiological responses at different levels of geomagnetic activity. In this study, the possible relation between the daily variations of cosmic ray intensity, measured by the Neutron Monitor at the Cosmic Ray Station of t...

Vulnerability of solar energy infrastructure and output to extreme events : climate change implications

This paper explores the potential vulnerability of solar energy systems to future extreme event risks as a consequence of climate change. We describe the three main technologies likely to be used to harness sunlight—thermal heating, photovoltaic (PV), and concentrating solar power (CSP)—and identify critical extreme event vulnerabilities for each one. We then compare these vulnerabilities with ...

Correction of SOHO CELIAS/SEM EUV Measurements Saturated by Extreme Solar Flare Events

The solar irradiance in the Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) spectral bands has been observed with a 15 s cadence by the SOHO Solar EUV Monitor (SEM) since 1995. During remarkably intense solar flares the SEM EUV measurements are saturated in the central (zero) order channel (0.1 – 50.0 nm) by the flare soft X-ray and EUV flux. The first order EUV channel (26 – 34 nm) is not saturated by the flare flu...

Extreme events in computational turbulence.

We have performed direct numerical simulations of homogeneous and isotropic turbulence in a periodic box with 8,192(3) grid points. These are the largest simulations performed, to date, aimed at improving our understanding of turbulence small-scale structure. We present some basic statistical results and focus on "extreme" events (whose magnitudes are several tens of thousands the mean value). ...
